Crazy Yet Simple Meta Ads Hack Most Brands Miss

In the world of digital marketing, finding that one hack that significantly boosts your ad performance can make

all the difference. Meta ads (formerly Facebook ads) are a powerful tool for reaching potential customers, but

many brands overlook one simple trick that can lead to higher Click-Through Rates (CTRs), better conversions,

and lower Cost Per Mille (CPM). The secret? Encouraging engagement—likes, comments, and shares—on your

ads.

The Experiment, Engagement vs. No Engagement

We ran an experiment to see just how much of a difference engagement could make on two identical Meta ads.

Here’s what we did:

1. Ad 1: We asked our team members to like and comment on the ad with positive responses. They also shared it

with their friends to maximize reach and engagement.

2. Ad 2: We set it up in the exact same way but did not ask anyone to engage with it. It ran "as is" without any

intentional engagement boost.

Everything else remained the same—design, ad copy, primary text, headline, and URL.

The Surprising Results

The difference in performance between the two ads was staggering. Ad 1, which had more likes, comments, and

shares, achieved:

- Higher Conversions: People are more likely to trust and act on ads that appear popular. The social proof created

by the likes and comments made the ad more persuasive, leading to a significant increase in conversions.

- Higher CTRs: More engagement signals to potential viewers that the content is worth their time, resulting in a

higher Click-Through Rate. People are naturally curious about content that others have interacted with.

- Lower CPMs: Meta's algorithm favors ads with higher engagement because they appear more relevant to users.

This preference resulted in lower costs per impression for our engaged ad.

On the other hand, Ad 2, with no likes or comments to boost it, faded out quickly. Despite being identical in every

other way to Ad 1, it failed to capture the same level of interest and was not cost-effective.

Why Engagement Matters, The Power of Social Proof

So, why did the ad with more engagement perform so much better? The answer lies in social proof. In the digital

age, people often rely on the behavior of others to determine their own actions. When users see an ad with a lot of

positive engagement, they are more likely to perceive it as trustworthy and relevant.

This concept isn't new—it's human nature. Whether deciding on a restaurant, a product, or an online ad, people

tend to follow the crowd. Higher engagement on an ad sends a powerful message: "This is worth your time."

Practical Takeaway, How to Boost Engagement on Your Ads

To replicate these results for your own campaigns, focus on driving as much engagement as possible on your ads.

Here are some practical tips to achieve that:

1. Leverage Your Team and Network: Just as we did in our experiment, encourage your team members, friends,

and family to engage with your ads right after they go live. A quick surge in likes and comments can set the stage

for higher organic engagement.

2. Use the Same Post IDs Across Multiple Ad Sets: If you plan to run multiple ad sets targeting different

audiences, use the same post ID. This way, the engagement from one ad set will carry over to the others,

amplifying your results.

3. Create Content Worth Engaging With: Engagement doesn't happen in a vacuum. Ensure your ad content is

compelling, valuable, and shareable. High-quality visuals, concise messaging, and strong calls to action are key.

4. Run Engagement Ads First: Before launching a full-fledged conversion campaign, run an engagement-focused

campaign to build up social proof on the post. Once you have enough likes, comments, and shares, switch to a

conversion-focused objective.

5. Respond to Comments: Don’t just wait for engagement to happen—encourage it. Reply to comments on your

ads promptly and in a way that invites further interaction. Even negative comments can be turned around if you

handle them with care and provide helpful responses.

Conclusion

Too often, brands spend a great deal of time and money crafting the perfect ad only to see it fade into the

background noise of the internet. The lesson here is clear: engagement is the fuel that can keep your ads burning

brightly. If you’re not actively seeking to drive engagement, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to increase

your ROI.

So, the next time you set up a Meta ad campaign, don’t just focus on the visuals and copy—think about how

you can encourage engagement from the very start. After all, a little social proof can go a long way in the world

of digital marketing.
